Mr. Hilleary has been the director of bands at Wapakoneta City Schools since the summer of 1999 and shares the responsible for the overall operations of the organization. He conducts the very successful Symphonic Band which has received superior ratings at district large group adjudicated events and qualified for State 15 of the last 16 years. He also shares the responsibilities and is drill writer for the Wapakoneta Marching Redskins. Mr. Hilleary also conducts the 8th and 7th grade bands while sharing duties with the 5th grade band and pep band. Prior to coming to Wapakoneta he spent two years as director of bands at Waynesfield-Goshen Exempted Village School and three years as director of bands at Minster Local Schools.

 After graduating from Celina High School in 1979, Mr. Hilleary spent four years on active duty in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and toured with the USAF entertainment group Tops in Blue, Music Express '81.
After his four year enlistment he began attending Ohio Northern University and then transferred to Bowling Green State University to finish his Bachelor of Music Education Degree. In the late 1990's Hilleary reenlisted in the Air National Guard and spent 2 years in the 555th Air National Guard Band, "The Band of the Great Lakes" playing lead trumpet in their jazz band, trumpet in their concert band, and performing some conducting duties. Mr. Hilleary is both a solo and ensemble, and large group adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association. In 2010 he was inducted in the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA). He holds a Bachelors of Music Education (1993) from Bowling Green State University and a Masters of Music Education (2003) with an emphasis in conducting from BGSU as well. Mr. Hilleary chaired OMEA District III high school honors band/choir/jazz festival for four years from 2000-2004 and has chaired the OMEA District III junior high band/choir/jazz festival from 2005 to present.

Mr. Hilleary is married to his wife of 26 years (Mary) and has three sons, a daughter in-law, two grandsons, a dog, two cats, 10 chickens, and a pond full of fish (and any random animals that decide to make their home at his residence). His hobbies include gigging on his trumpet, running, biking, hiking, camping, skeet shooting, and spending time with family. He and his family attend Harvest Baptist Church in Wapakoneta.
